Hi, we are floatjet

About FloatJet

Real tools tested by someone who actually works remotely.

Why This Exists

Been doing the remote thing since around 2019. Lisbon for a while, then Bali, bunch of random Airbnbs in between. Coworking spaces that promised "blazing fast WiFi". Spoiler, it never was. And every time I needed a new tool? Some project management app or VPN or whatever? Hours down the drain reading reviews that all said the same stuff.

"Best for professionals." Okay but what does that even mean.

Started testing stuff myself instead. Wrote down what worked, what was trash, what looked great until you actually used it for more than three days.

That became this site. No content team. No one getting paid to say nice things. Just notes from years of actually doing the remote thing.

Who This Is For

Remote Workers

Maybe you've got an actual home office. Maybe it's a corner of your kitchen. Doesn't matter.I write about the gear and apps that make WFH less annoying. Skip the paralysis of comparing 47 options.

Digital Nomads

The fun stuff like VPNs that work when you're in countries that block everything. Banks that won't freeze your card the second you cross a border. Laptop bags that don't fall apart after six months.

Freelancers

Already juggling a hundred things. Don't need to also research invoicing apps for three hours. I test them, tell you what's good, you move on with your life.

Remote Teams

Slack but cheaper? Something that's not Zoom? Project management that people might actually use? Yeah, I cover that. Distributed work is hard enough without bad tools making it worse.

How I Actually Test This Stuff

Not by skimming the marketing page and rewording it. Actual process:

Weeks of real use, not a quick demo.

I'm using these tools on actual client work. Deadlines. Stress. The whole thing. When a VPN craps out during a presentation, that goes in the review. When an app seems great day one but gets annoying by day ten, you'll hear about it.

The bad stuff doesn't get hidden.

Look. Everything has problems. Could be a small thing you can live with, could be a total dealbreaker. Either way it goes in the review. Not trying to sell you anything here. If something wasted my time, hopefully telling you saves you from the same headache.

Old reviews get revisited.

Apps change. Companies get bought. Features get removed. Something that was solid two years ago might be a mess now, or vice versa. I go back and check.

The Money Thing

Might as well be upfront about this. Some links on the site are affiliate links. You buy something through them, I get a cut. Doesn't change what you pay. Standard affiliate model.

What that doesn't change: my actual opinion. I've turned down partnerships because the product was meh. Passed on easy money because I couldn't honestly recommend the thing. The whole point of this site is that I actually use what I write about. Shilling garbage would kind of defeat that.

The affiliate stuff lets me keep the site running without paywalls or sponsored posts pretending to be reviews. Works for me. Hopefully works for you.

What I Cover

Basically anything a remote worker might need. Project management apps and why most of them are overkill. VPNs. Which ones actually work in China, which ones are just marketing. Home office gear that's worth the money and stuff that's overpriced garbage.

Time trackers. Password managers. The best way to set up a standing desk without spending $800. Communication tools that won't make your team hate each other. If it helps remote work suck less, I'm probably testing it.
